WEBINAR RECORDING | The Second Wave in Israel’s Arab Society
With COVID-19 infection rates rising dramatically in recent weeks, Israel implemented a three-week nation-wide lockdown over the High Holidays. In contrast to the first wave, when the number of cases in Arab society remained relatively low, Arab communities now account for 75% of Israel’s ‘red zones’. Arab medical professionals and community leaders are on the frontlines of efforts to flatten the curve in the face of deepening social and economic strains.
What is the current status of the COVID-19 crisis in Arab society and why did the second wave have a larger impact? How are Arab medical professionals and local leaders working to enforce prevention measures and what are the major challenges they face?
The Inter-Agency Task Force and Greater Washington Forum on Israeli Arab Issues hosted a Zoom briefing with Dr. Fahed Hakim, Medical Director of the Nazareth Hospital and member of the Ministry of Health Committee on the Fight Against the Coronavirus, and Nidal Othman, Deputy Mayor of Tamra, for a discussion of the second wave from the medical and community frontlines.
