“Peace” in the Eyes of Israeli and Palestinian Youths as a Function of Collective Narratives and Participation in a Peace Education Program
The authors address education peace programs among Jewish and Arab youth, and demonstrate how the different interpretations of peace of these groups stem from their different collective narratives and socio-political circumstances. The authors also note differences in the contents of these programs, specifically, differences in emphasis on the pursuit of tolerance, eradication of stereotypes and prejudice, and reinforcement of positive attitudes toward the other side. According to the authors, much of the success of these programs depends on their potential to tap into the deepest roots of intolerance and to eliminate the de-legitimization of the other side.
