Arab Youth in Israel 2004: Needs, Activities, and Expectations

Young Arabs in the 15-18-year age group represent 18% of the entire age group cohort in Israel and approximately 8% of all Arab citizens in Israel. Nonetheless, the author claims that this group does not receive the appropriate attention from Israeli governmental organizations, a fact that is indicative of the general policy of discrimination against Arab citizens practiced by the Israeli establishment. This neglect is particularly the case in social and cultural spheres, as well as in the field of both formal and informal education. Furthermore, there is a lack of Arab organizations dedicated to issues that are relevant for young people in this age group. This is the first survey of its kind that was designed to discover and analyze the opinions and attitudes of young Arabs, principally those in secondary education, on a variety of issues
